About this spot

Mulranny Beach is a popular sandy beach located south-west of Mulranny village. The area has an important strand of Mediterranean heath and also machair sand plains and saltmarsh are located within the site. The salt marsh contains a wealth of flora and fauna including an array of flower and bird species. There are 3 Special Area of conservation (SAC)/ proposed Natural Heritage Areas (pNHA) - Owenduff/Nephin Complex cSAC/pNHA (Site Code 000534), Corraun Plateau cSAC/pNHA (Site Code 000485) and Clew Bay Complex cSAC/pNHA (Site Code 001482). There is one Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) Owenduff/Nephin Complex SPA, (Site Code 004098). The beach is approx. 400metres in length however the bathing area is approximately 0.37km wide and the bathing water is approximately 0.12km2 in area. The medium and maximum water depth within the designated bathing water would be 0.5m and 5.0m respectively depending on tides.
